Father's Day Weekend

A few blogs ago, I posted about traditions. One tradition we have at the Walker house is Father's Day Weekend. I feel like this weekend is really important to show the Father in our life that we adore him and couldn't survive without his unconditional love and support. So we try to make it super special.

Day 1: Date Night

We kicked the weekend off with the annual Daddy-Daughter date night.  This has always meant attending the Daddy Daughter Dance, but that was cancelled this year.  Instead, Eric & Addison went to dinner at the Triniti Room at the Tower Club in Dallas, located on the 48th floor in downtown Dallas.  They had a great time & I think Addison was really blown away by the place.

I'm a little concerned that by exposing her to this fine dining experience at such an early age, her expectations for future boy-dates may be too high. Oh well!

Addison tried 6 new foods - which is a big deal in her world of picky eating! Sushi, Lobster Macaroni & Cheese (doesn't that sound fabulous??), onion rings, and....I've forgotten the rest.

After dinner, they headed down to walk around Victory Plaza, the same place the Dallas Maverick championship parade was held just one day earlier.

While these two were gallavanting through Dallas, Preston & I also head out for a night on the town. It's alway Preston's choice, and this year he chose Pei Wei & Putt-Putt.  I'm pretty sure I beat him, even with his funny math.

Day 2: Father-Son Golf Tournament

Preston is beginning to show signs of genuine interest in golf.  He's gone to a few golf clinics/lessons over the years, but never on a consistent basis.  And we occasionally go to the driving range or play alternate-shot family golf.  Eric decided he would sign Preston up for a Father Son golf tounament and give him a little exposure to a real game format.  And have a little fun together at the same time!

They picked up the DAL award, but had a lot of fun together. I don't know if Preston will remember it, but I know Eric will.

Day 3: Father's Day

The plan was to start the day with a special Father's Day breakfast made by none other than P-Nut himself. But with the girl sleeping in until 10, Preston lost focus and moved onto the Wii.  I ended up making a great breakfast & we watched Eric open his gifts.

He received some socks, new shirts, and a camera. A nice camera. You'll notice in the video below he is surprised by receiving this gift from me.  It's true, I'm really bad at making buying decisions & that is very true when it comes to big ticket items.  But I did some research and had a little help from Cowtown Camera Girl.

We spent the afternoon at Top Golf. This was the kid's first trip & they had a blast. So I'm sure we'll be spending more time there.  And then we made a mad dash back to the house.  Grandpa Tom was coming over for dinner & Addison had a Cinnamon Custard Pie to bake!

So Eric said he had a great Father's Day weekend,  the 'best' in fact.  Which made me feel really good.  I hope he knows how much we love him every weekend, not just Father's Day Weekend.

And I hope this is the last blog post I have with crappy pics!!

What's that Sound?!?!

Eric & I woke up the other night to a shattered window in our bedroom. Funny....neither of us were alarmed upon hearing the sound.  What does that say about our ability to handle a crisis?

It turns out that Lucky, who is always sitting & watching out the window, had somehow tapped on our window one too many times.  Possibly with his chew bone in his mouth.

Regardless, my super husband went straight to work the next day tracking down a new window.  He had it installed within an hour. On his first window-install attempt.  The new window is white, as opposed to the existing black windows. SO now it's 1 window down, 16 to go.  Booooo!!!  There are so many other things I would rather have than 16 new windows.

Summertime = Family Traditions

When Memorial Day came & went, I began to think that we don't have enough family traditions at our house.  But as our summer begins, I realize that we do have quite a few.  For instance, in the summertime, it's a tradition that we are in the pool early in the morning.  We also have a tradition of going to Junior All-Sports Camp at Walnut Creek Country Club. The kids have a great time and a full day of activities, coming home exhausted everday.

Next up is our annual family vacation.  This year we're going back to Galveston, staying at Point West.  We love this place for many reasons. But mostly because of the proximity to the beach, the bay, the pool, the lazy river, and the daily family activities.  This year we'll be spending the 4th of July there as well. We always have fun on July 4th, testing out new fireworks.  I always tell Eric that if he goes to jail, I will not pick him up until the morning.

This year we are also vacationing with another family of 4.  Fun, fun, fun!

And lastly, I always try to take Addison to see a play or musical every summer. This summer, we're going to try to schedule Hairspray at Bass Hall.

So, while I may not be turning out butterball turkeys every Thanksgiving, I'm pretty excited about the Walker family traditions of summer.

Getting Ready for Camp Thurman

Addison & Preston will be going to Camp Thurman in July. They hosted an orientation for new campers this weekend. After taking a tour and picking up t-shirts, we got to test out some of the activities together.
