We're Hiring Again, which means more Resumes!

There are many things I like about being a Supervisor. But really I prefer not to be a supervisor - too many 'HR' related things involved that are a big bummer.  I'd rather be everyone's coworker so we can all just work together.

But what I really don't like about being a Supervisor is hiring & training a new employee. I try to be positive about the experience, so I look forward to reviewing Resumes. (see original Now Hiring post).  I always get a good laugh.

One word, people:  Proofread!!

Here's a few little treasures I found in this round of Resume review:

Do you see this picture?  I actually received this picture as a .jpg attachment. I did crop the name out, but everything else is in original format. It's cut off on the sides, bottom, etc.  It's dark.  It has been crossed-through & written on. It's just not appropriate!!

• ‘I possess an encyclopedic memory’

• ‘Objective: obtain a respective career….’

• ‘I could improve your website 100% in 24 hours’ (really? We just spent $7,500 & 3 months with a professional company redesigning our website. I seriously doubt you can fulfill this promise).

• ‘Mission Statement: To Ensure and Maintain Excellence for my Achievements while Inspiring Excellence in Others.’

• ‘Duties inclusive but not limited to all areas pertaining to mangerial work.’

• ‘GPA: 3.0 Degree: credit completation’  (wth is completation??)

• ‘Objective- I want to find an exploring career to retire from….’

Fortunately, I have received some referrals for the position so I don't have to rely upon these Craiglist resumes.   If you are looking for a job, please PLEASE have someone Proofread your resume.

New School Year

Good News! I just ordered a new computer so maybe I'll be able to start blogging about our family adventures again soon.  For about the last 9 months, I've had pictures on my phone but I because our computer is so awful, it's a nightmare trying to transfer them and make a blog post. It literally takes hours.

So I've got some catching up to do.  But my first priority with the new computer will be to start working on a new photo book. So far I have only completed 1.  I have 6 years to catch up on. Yikes!

Here is a picture of Addison (13) and Preston (10) on their first day of school.  They are both in their last year at each school, so they are both the 'big man on campus'.  It should be a great year!

Here's to a great fall ahead of us!

Our last weekend as 4

Our new arrival will be here on Tuesday so we tried to pack in some fun activities this weekend.

We started the weekend off by taking the kids to one of our favorite breakfast joints, Oddfellows in the Bishop Arts District.  Now that we have moved to Midlothian, we are a little closer to the Dallas scene so this area is a little closer to us now. It's a super cute area with lots of shops and dining.  Unfortunately, since we always go for breakfast most of those shops aren't open.  Eventually we'll get back there in the evening.

Ouur next stop was to the Perot Museum of Nature & Science. This museum opened earlier this year in Dallas and we've been putting off our visit to allow the crowds to die down.  The kids had a great time, both interested in different sections and interactive displays. The museum has 4.5 floors to peruse.  We definitely will have to go back to spend more time; 3 hours didn't allow time to see it all.
Eric & Preston working on a robot.

Addison, making a song.
Saturday evening we met up with our good friends to see a concert at Levitt Pavillion. Unfortunately, after grabbing dinner we only made it to hear 2 songs at the show.  But we had a great time nonetheless.

And as for today, we are doing a few things around the house. I worked in my last walk today to meet my 100 mile goal before Austin arrives.  Addison is going to the Apple store to get her phone fixed & studying for her final exams before she flies to Indiana on Wednesday for an International Problem Solvers competition.  She's really excited to participate in this event....and fly on a trip with her schoool friends. And Preston has talked his dad into buying a slip-n-slide for the back yard since our Pool install has been delayed.  I think those slides are so painful - throwing your body to the ground over & over - but I sure did like them as a kid. And I'm sure Preston will too.

The kids have their last week at school coming up.  We'll be cleaning & packing for the hospital tomorrow. And Austin arrives Tuesday.  Super fun weekend followed by a super exciting week!

100 Miles

I set a New Year's Resolution in January to walk 100 miles before the end of my pregnancy and today I finished my last walk with just 1 day to spare.

Here's how it went:
January  19.81 miles
February  22.99 miles
March  24.19 miles
April  17.04 miles
May  16.38
Total  100.41 miles

I know that maintaining a regular exercise schedule has helped me to feel better in general. It definitely made a big diffrence by helping to reduce the swelling in my feet after sitting at work all day.

My next goal is to take off the baby weight by the end of the year by running another 100 miles.  I hope to be jogging again by September 1 and back to doing some 5k's with my family this fall.

New Blog!

I started writing a new blog when I discovered that I was pregnant. My goal in doing so was to keep a timeline for myself of the pregnancy so I could remember the journey. Doing it online was the easiest format; I just can't commit to a journal anymore.

So now that we are expecting our new arrival in 7 days, I have made the blog public for everyone else to see. I will continue to post updates on our new arrival so that I can eventually publish a book.  And after some time, I will get back to posting on this blog alone.
